Interface Input/Output Automata: Splitting Assumptions from Guarantees

چکیده
We propose a new look at one of the most fundamental types of behavioral interfaces: discrete time specifications of communication—directly related to the work of de Alfaro and Henzinger [2]. Our framework is concerned with distributed non-blocking asynchronous systems in the style of Lynch’s I/O-automata [11], relying on a context dependent notion of refinement based on relativized language inclusion. There are two main contributions of the work. First, we explicitly separate assumptions from guarantees, increasing the modeling power of the specification language and demonstrating an interesting relation between blocking and non-blocking interface frameworks. Second, our composition operator is systematically and formally derived from the requirements stated as a system of inequalities. The derived composed interfaces are maximal in the sense of behavior, or equivalently are the weakest in the sense of assumptions. Finally, we present a method for solving systems of inequalities as used in our setup.

Interface Input/Output Automata
Building on the theory of interface automata by de Alfaro and Henzinger we design an interface language for Lynch’s I/O automata, a popular formalism used in the development of distributed asynchronous systems, not addressed by previous interface research. We introduce an explicit separation of assumptions from guarantees not yet seen in other behavioral interface theories. Moreover we derive t...

متن کاملAn Introduction to Pervasive Interface Automata
Pervasive systems are often context-dependent, component based systems in which components expose interfaces and offer one or more services. These systems may evolve in unpredictable ways, often through component replacement. We present pervasive interface automata as a formalism for modelling components and their composition. Pervasive interface automata are based on the interface automata of ...
متن کاملAn algebraic theory of interface automata
We formulate a compositional specification theory for interface automata, where a component model specifies the allowed sequences of input and output interactions with the environment. A trace-based linear-time refinement is provided, which is the weakest preorder preserving substitutivity of components, and is weaker than the classical alternating simulation defined on interface automata. Sinc...
متن کاملSubmodule Construction for Specifications with Input Assumptions and Output Guarantees
We consider the following problem: For a system consisting of two submodules, the behavior of one submodule is known as well as the desired behavior S of the global system. What should be the behavior of the second submodule such that the behavior of the composition of the two submodules conforms to S ? Solutions to this problem have been described in the context of various specification formal...
